Mary Elizabeth (Sheridan) O'Toole

January 15, 1926 ~ January 15, 2019 (age 93)

O’TOOLE—Mary Elizabeth (nee Sheridan). Born January 15, 1926; entered into eternal life on January 15, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.   Predeceased by her loving husband, John, in 2013, and her beloved son, John (Jackie), in 2016.  Loving mother of Kathleen (Kathy) and her husband, Peter Hoffmann, Deirdre and her husband, Michael Daly, Mary and her spouse, Bayly Tyler, Siobhan and her husband, Thomas Rini, James and Meaghan.  Devoted grandmother to Courtney, Keelan and her husband, Nicholas Mozer, Pearse, Sarah, John (J.J.), Thomas, Caroline, Catherine (Katie) and Brenna.

Mary was born in the Bronx, New York, to the late Mary (nee McCartan) and James Sheridan, growing up on Clay Avenue in the Our Lady of Victory parish with her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.  Mary was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan, a prestigious all-girls Catholic school, of which she had many fond memories.  She went on to work at The Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., where she met her future husband, John.  Mary and John, who were married for more than 63 years, spent most of that time in the St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish and later the Holy Rosary parish, both in the Bronx, New York, where they raised their seven children and doted on their nine grandchildren.  Mary was a member of the Holy Family Club, and participated in parish plays and musicals and volunteered her time at both parish schools.  Mary was also a member of the St. Monica Mothers’ Guild and the Regis High School Parents’ Club.

Some of Mary’s happiest memories were of summers spent with family and friends at the beach in Lavallette, New Jersey.  Mary was an avid reader, visiting the library weekly and staying up late into the night reading The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.  She loved her dogs and cats, and ardently cared for any and all stray animals that came across her path.
