Nancy E. Nelin passed away peacefully at her Bronx residence on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Nancy was born in The Bronx in 1947. After graduating from Grasslands Hospital School of Nursing, she worked in Lenox Hill Hospital, including 17 years as a head nurse. Upon retirement , she returned to her beloved Bronx..
She enjoyed traveling some of which included trips to Africa, Australia, Antarctica, Russia, China, Tibet, Finland, India etc. However Nancy also delighted in trips to local areas whether it was an overnight trip to Lancaster, PA, or sitting by the water at Orchard Beach. For Nancy, every trip became a journey of new discoveries.
Though she struggled with many afflictions during the past 20 years, Nancy never lost her strong urge for independence sometimes to the dismay of others. She embodied the Finnish characteristic of SISU; that sense of moving forward with pride, dignity, and stoical resolve, no matter what obstacles were in the way.
There was always a mint in her pocket to offer to someone with love. To Nancy, every person she met had the potential of becoming a friend.
Nancy will always have a special place in our hearts because she taught us to live life to the fullest using the best of our abilities, one day at a time. For her, every new day was a gift to be cherished and celebrated.
Nancy is deeply mourned by her sister Linda, brother in law Marty, nieces Lisa and Laura, caregiver and friend Yvonne, and her many friends.
Rest in peace Nancy as you travel the ultimate journey.
