Petrina Vullo

February 25, 1928 ~ June 2, 2019 (age 91)

Petrina Vullo, 91 passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice, Port Jefferson, NY on Sunday, June 2, 2019.
She was born on February 25, 1928 in Cattolica Eraclea, a municipality in the Province of Agrigento, a region of Sicily to Josephina Marsala Russo and Giuseppe Russo.
At the age of 20 in 1948, she came to America accompanied by her mother. They were reunited with her father as well as other family members. Her father was working in NYC so he could send money back home so they would be able to rejoin the family.
On June 19, 1955, she married Rosario Vullo and moved to the Bronx, NY. She lovingly raised 3 children.
In 1974, they relocated to Patchogue, Long Island where she worked in a local department store. She later worked as a seamstress creating beautiful garments including the intricate hand sewing of the bead work on wedding gowns.
Petrina was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was a homemaker, gardener, baker, cook, crocheter and seamstress.
She had a passion for planting and growing her vegetable garden even just recently she planted a few vegetables.
She enjoyed the tradition of making and jarring her own tomato sauce that she shared with her children.
Her love of cooking included many Italian specialties like homemade ravioli, manicotti, eggplant, stuffed sardines, Cucuzza squash and Sunday gravy.
She was a great baker creating many types of cookies including her Anginetti (Lemon Drop) cookies along with zucchini bread, chocolate cake and her amazingly delicious "Tiramisu" that was a favorite of everyone.

She is survived by:
her children - Ben and wife Barbara, Joanne and Joseph
her grandchildren - Nicholas, Michael, Nicole, Sheena and Michael
her great-grandchildren - Jayden, Bibiana, Michael jr. and Chanell
her sister - Anna (Nene) Arcuri
her brother - Stefano (Steve) Russo as well as many nieces and nephews.


Family and friends are invited to McNulty Funeral Home, Inc. 3006 Middletown Road Bronx, New York 10461 on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 2:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM for visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Petrina at St. Theresa's Church on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 9:45 AM.  Entombment will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.
